Four loved shirts from the Vintage Ivy Collection are back in stock!
We began our collaboration with Graham Marsh in 2013 and introduced four collections over the past three years. From the past designs, we’ve chosen four designs to reproduce that received a lot of requests. All the essential details are there to replicate the 1960s Ivy Look that Marsh adores.
About Graham Marsh
Graham Marsh is an art director, illustrator and author whose recent works include The Ivy Look, Hollywood And The Ivy Look, and an illustrated children’s book, Max and the Lost Note. The handsome cats modeling on this page are Graham’s creation, ‘Max the Cat’ and his feline friend.
Shadow Check Button-down
“These days a stylish cotton, button-down shadow check shirt is as rare as hen’s teeth, however, Kamakura Shirts have succeeded in making an excellent one exclusively for this new Vintage Ivy collection. Writer, director, actor and comedian, Woody Allen wore a classic shadow check under his corduroy Ivy jacket in the movie, ‘Play it Again Sam’. Allen has always personified that New York, East Coast Ivy Look and without doubt his collection of shadow check shirts are second to none. This shirt is Kamakura Vintage Ivy at its best.”

Black Watch Tartan Button-down
“In a bid to stamp out cattle rustling in the Highlands of Scotland, the 42nd Royal Highland Regiment ‘The Black Watch was formed in 1729 as a watch, or police. The tartan of this regiment consisted of the sombre colours, dark green, dark blue and black, hence the name Black Watch. History aside, Kamakura Shirts considers this tartan just about the most versatile Ivy shirting fabric there is. It was an obvious choice. This button-down looks pin sharp worn under a navy blue hopsack Ivy suit or indeed, worn outside a pair of faded 501 Levis’s or khaki chinos.”

Navy Oxford Button-down
“The cover of the first edition of the book ‘Hollywood and the Ivy Look’, of which I was co-author, featured a photograph of Steve McQueen in the early 1960s wearing a deeply hip navy blue button-down. This button-down is a solid Ivy League and Modernist’s favourite. This cool shirt is one of Kamakura’s finest. Wear it under a brown or grey herringbone, natural shouldered jacket and hit all the right notes.”

Blue Oxford Pullover
“A long sleeved blue oxford cloth button-down pullover also known as a pop-over shirt can look, worn with the right clothes, sharper than a razorblade. The last time these shirts were around was in the 1960s. The button-down popover still exists but usually in a short-sleeved, high summer version but rarely comes with long sleeves. This shirt will become an indispensable part of the Ivy look - get one while stocks last.”
