You would be mistaken to think that Kamakura Shirts was all about just creating the best shirts. The same exacting standards are applied to our ties. Our hand sewn ties are supple, yet hold their form; they offer a distinctive sense of artisan tailoring produced in Japan. Luxury handmade ties will have a slip stitch, which is a long looped thread just visible at the seam. This allows the tie to naturally fall back into shape when twisted or wrinkled. Another key point in selecting a tie is to check whether it is made from natural materials. Silk, wool, linen, and cotton all have a natural, beautiful sheen that synthetic materials do not. We have selected the crème de la crème of tie fabrics from around the world, including fabric from Kyoto, Japan.
Silk fabric has been the backbone of local produce in Yamanashi. Blessed with the right conditions, silk cultivation is a thriving business in the surrounding areas of Mount Fuji. Local artisans weave fabric with the traditional skills which have been passed down through generations. True craftsmanship can be observed here by those artisans who have kept practicing simple, honest and sincere "monodzukuri" (making of things) and is particular to these areas.
We have sourced fabric from the Nishijin area of Kyoto, famed for the production of silk textiles. Its beginnings can be traced back to the fifth century, when kimono materials were woven from silk. The fabrics produced here are neither vibrant nor eccentric but are gracious and calm, reflecting the transience of the four seasons experienced in Japan.
